Hypnotherapy for Children Thumb Sucking Bath
Children of all ages suck their thumbs for numerous reasons. It often starts in the womb as a natural reflex linked to suckling. As a baby grows aso it learns a great deal about its body and the world it inhabits through sucking. They suck on their fingers, your fingers, clothing and toys. By behaving this way they learn what is pleasing and what is uncomfortable. Sucking on an ice cube or cool teething ring feels good when those first teeth are trying to break through, but when the same teething child sucks on a hard plastic toy, they may experience discomfort.
Children also use sucking to comfort themselves. The action is relaxing, it often induces sleep. In fact, thumb suckers may well fall to sleep more easily and are able to put them self back to sleep quicker.
Once permanent teeth are grown, the time their permanent front teeth start coming in, which is typically around the age of five thumb sucking can cause problems. It can interfere with proper mouth growth, teeth alignment, and cause changes to the roof of the mouth. It is all determined by the intensity of that thumb sucking as to whether or not it will create a dental problem. Best therefore that children give up thumb sucking. The good news is that the majority of children lose interest in thumb sucking long before this point.
So what can you do to help?
Never tell them to stop as nagging a thumb sucker is no good for them or you. Instead, encourage them to realise how much they have grown and changed.Rather get your child to believe that it was their idea. Point out how they have grown up and grown out of many of the infant and toddler ways. Check out what they think they could give up now that has been there since they were little. If they don’t say it. You could casually mention the thumb sucking as part of that bucket list.
Encourage your child to take their mind away from the need to suck their thumb by distracting them just as they have started to suck their thumb. Being especially prepared before any nap or bedtime. Have them hold the night time book your read or hug one of their favourite soft toys, with both hands of course.
When your child wants to give up thumb sucking, then you can decide on a secret signal between the two of you and when they slip their thumb in their mouth, you can use the secret signal to help them realise what they are doing. By using a secret signal, you replace what could be a shameful or nagging situation with fun.
Hypnotherapy for your childs thumb sucking can really help them change their behaviour and break the unconscious habit once and for all.
