Self esteem is all about how you think or feel about yourself, your opinion of yourself. High self esteem is a good opinion of yourself and low self esteem is a bad opinion of yourself. Low self esteem comes from a poor self image. Your self image is based on how you see yourself. Do you think you are a good, reliable, hardworking, honest or friendly person? Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror or do you believe others look better than you?
What many people don’t realise is that you are your own gatekeeper of the level of self esteem you have at any given time. Your inner voice will come up with many thoughts or questions about your daily life. The internal feedback or answers you give yourself to these questions can drastically alter your self esteem and how you feel about you.
Your self esteem depends on many questions:
Is your job worthwhile? Do your colleagues respect what you do? Do you?Do you believe you are successful? How do you see yourself, your self image? How do you feel about your strengths and weaknesses? Are you comparing yourself to others and ignoring the unique value of you.How do you view your social status? How do you relate to others? Do you feel that you make your own decisions?
Low self esteem feeds on negative thinking. It is good to care about other's feelings. However, your needs are just as important? Don't neglect yourself!
Be yourself. Don’t try to be like someone else. Celebrate your uniqueness, your individualism.
Always strive to improve yourself. Don’t knock yourself for not being as successful, intelligent, good looking or as popular as someone else.
Don’t dwell on your mistakes or make them bigger than they need to be. Life is one big learning opportunity. Everyone makes mistakes. But not everyone decides to learn and grow from those mistakes. They just let the mistakes be another form of self punishment or loathing.
On the other hand high self esteem is the opposite of the above! If you have a high level of self esteem you will be confident, happy, highly motivated and have the right attitude to succeed.
